Got my Singularity Ticket! Have you?

Just today i got myself a ticket for Singularity . If you wonder what Singularity is:

Singularity is a web conference that brings together some of the most interesting and exciting developers, designers, creatives, and thought leaders from around the web to share with you their passions and expertise.

The sessions cover a wide range of timely topics including web standards, accessibility, web application development, Flash, Flex, and scalability.

And best of all, it’s right wherever you are .. well .. aslong as you have internet that is :)

Big thanks to Aral Balkan for putting this all together for the whole web community.

Early singularity badge supporters (like the one you see to your right, the “I am” Symbolthingy) actually get the tickets half price. That is if you still have the email that Aral sent you.

Unfortunately i’ve killed mine .. but hey!
Till end of august the tickets are only $99. So there really is no excuse for anyone interested in web technologies to miss out on this one.

See you online everyone!

Had an awesome Friday

Yann and Isabella having fun with the balloon

On Friday we decided to go to Aarau and our bestest of friend Yann (who’s family anyway by now ;) ) came with us. Weather was awesome nice and we had a great day! Also Yann gave me a early Birthday gift. A digital Camcorder! What a crazyhead! I love him! Check out the pictures we took from that day. Isabella sure loved her Balloon.

Make your old incompatible Add-ons work in Firefox 3

Yes, you could wait until whoevers Extension you are using is updated OR you can use this handy little trick:

  • Open a new Tab
  • Enter about:config in the addressbar
  • Void the warranty! (You’ll see what i mean)
  • Look for extensions.checkCompatibility
  • Set the value to false
  • You may or may not have to restart Firefox

And that’s it! Keep in mind not to blame Firefox for incompatible Extensions that do not work now ;) To reverse those Settings you can always do the same steps and just set the value back to true.

Blog is now OpenID enabled

Yup, finally found the time to install the OpenID Plugin for wordpress. If you don’t have an OpenID yet. Get one! It’s goood.

Where to get Firefox 3.0 while the servers are under attack..

here’s a mirror for those that try to get Firefox during this 24 hour crazyness.

Follow-up: Pimp Flex Builder some more

After having blogged about enhancing Flex Builder functionality, i also came across another useful extension. Snippets! As the name already tells you it allows you to create and insert snippets of code. Sadly it’s not as advanced as the template support in FDT. But, it’s better than nothing isn’t it  ? ;)

Trying out the Spore Creature Creator Trial a day before official release

I found a link to the Spore Creature Creator Trial which is supposed to be released tommorow ;)

I must say, now i really can’t wait till Spore is beeing released. Just the creation part itself is sooo much fun. I’ll publish some pictures or a video once i’ll find the time to do so.

September 5th this year. Spore here i come!!

Pimp my Flex Builder

I’ve gotten very used to Eclipse over the past year or so. One feature i absolutely love is the fact that i can write comments prefixed with TODO or FIXME and a handy task window will keep track of those comments. Which in the end tells me exactly what needs to be done without having to seek out that line of code or even having to remember which file it was.
Another feature i was missing, is of course SVN. Nothings safer than having a repository for all your stuff ;)

So obviously i was a little upset seeing that Flex Builder 3 doesn’t feature either a Task Management or even a modern Versioning System. But don’t fret!

Since Flex Builder 3 is Eclipse based you can easily install subclipse to get svn running. To find out how to install subclipse to your builder just follow this generic installation guide over at the subclipse website.

For the Tasks i tried a couple things before i started scavenging the net. But then i found the TODO/FIXME extension, a task plugin done by Dirk Eismann for Flex Builder 2 that still works even with Flex Builder 3.

And there you go. Two helpful features added to your beloved Flex Builder. Hope this helps someone out there.

Things that are cooking…

I am very busy at the moment on many different fronts. The Coverflow Clone i made for local.ch will be going open source. I am very exited about that. Seeing that there are many of these clones out there i’m sure that this one has a very distinct reason d’etre. It’s done in AS2 Papervision3D and highly optimized for perfomance. More about this soon.

On other fronts, i am trying to finish Trader v1 for public release to enter the latest MochiAds Contest.

I also have the possiblity to write a couple Tutorials for pv3d.org which i’m also very excited about.

Workwise i’m stuck with javascript/css work and can’t wait to get my hands dirty again with actionscript/flex. As we speak of Actionscript/Flex, the Adobe Air Camp also left me quite inspired to make ample use of AIR in forthcoming projects. More on that topic soon.

Last but absolutely not least, Michel and I will merge our knowledge and deliver it for your reading pleasure over at bytesforbreakfast.com , which will become our technical blog. So make sure to check it out regularly ;)
